Canucks hit the road in search of seasons first win as Vancouver faces off against the Lightning
Winless in its first two games of the season, the Vancouver Canucks hit the road for the first time this year as they open a four-game eastern swing on Tuesday night in Tampa Bay to face the Lightning. Tampa Bay has played only one game so far this season after their matchup with Carolina was postponed due to ongoing hurricane recovery throughout Florida and has not been on the ice since beating Carolina in its season opener on Friday. Both of Vancouver’s losses have come after regulation losing the season opener at home to Calgary in overtime then in a shootout in Friday night’s loss to Philadelphia.

Lightning winger Nikita Kucherov has been tasked with picking up the Tampa Bay scoring duties as the team let veteran captain Steven Stamkos skate off in free agency, and Kucherov has been up to the task netting three goals and an assist in his first game this season. Entering his 11th season with the Lightning, Kucherov comes into this year off a career high 144 point, his fourth 100-plus point season in six years, and became just the fifth player to ever post a 100 assist season just two days after Edmonton’s Connor McDavid became the first player since Wayne Gretzky accomplished the feat in 1990.
Off his first career 40-goal season, Canucks winger Brock Boeser leads the team with two goals so far this season, both coming in the first period of the opening night loss to Calgary including one goal on the power play.
Tampa Bay has not allowed a power play goal yet this season and has now gone three consecutive regular season games without surrendering a goal against the man advantage.
The Lightning have won nine of the last 11 meetings in this series including four straight victories inside Amalie Arena dating back to 2018.
