Detroit Red Wings look to salvage a 3-game, 4-day California trip when they face the San Jose Sharks
The Detroit Red Wings (7-9-1, 15 points) have lost the first two games of their three-game, four-day California swing and wrap it up on Monday night when they visit the San Jose Sharks (5-10-4, 14 points). The Sharks have lost three in a row, picking up two points in that span. Detroit didn’t have young defenseman Simon Edvinsson in their loss on Saturday with a lower-body injury while San Jose center Nico Sturm didnt play Saturday with an upper-body problem. The Sharks haven’t had veterans Marc-Edouard Vlasic (back) or Logan Couture (groin) at all this season.

Tyler Toffoli’s second goal of the game at 11:40 of the third period knotted the score. The tallies gave Toffoli a share of the team lead with eight goals along with Mikael Granlund, who has a team-best 19 points. Mackenzie Blackwood is 3-5-2 in 10 starts in net with a .910 save percentage and 3.11 goals-against average.
The Red Wings surrendered two goals in 22 seconds late in the first period and took a 4-1 loss to the host Los Angeles Kings on Saturday. Dylan Larkin got the only Detroit goal with 1:27 left. The captain leads the club with 10 goals, while Alex DeBrincat (seven goals) and Lucas Raymond (two goals) share the team high with 16 points. Goalie Cam Talbot is 5-3-1 in 10 starts with a .927 save percentage and 2.42 GAA.
The teams are scheduled for their other matchup this season in Detroit on Jan. 14.
