The New York Rangers look to pick up where they left off as the top team in the NHL when they play the New York Islanders in preseason action on Tuesday.
The next chapter in the in-state rivalry between the New York Islanders (1-0-0) and New York Rangers (1-0-0) begins on Tuesday in preseason action. Last season the Rangers finished at the top of the NHL with 114 points, but fell short in the playoffs to the eventual Stanley Cup Champions in the conference finals. They kicked off the preseason with goals from Alex Belzile, Filip Chytil and Victor Mancini in a win. The Islanders also won their first preseason game with goals from Julien Gauthier, Simon Holmstrom, Anders Lee and Camden Thiesing. Both teams got off to hot starts on the offensive end and will collide with each other today in what could be an exciting preseason game.

Last season the teams played four times, with the Rangers winning three of the four games. One went to overtime and another to a shootout with the teams combining for at least five goals in all four games.
The Rangers were one of the most complete teams in the NHL last season. They finished sixth in goals scored, seventh in goals against and were one of only eight teams with a positive goal differential of at least 50 or more.
Most of that offensive success came behind the stick of Artemi Panarin with 120 points, 49 goals and 71 assists. He finished fourth in the league in points, fifth in assists and goals. He heads into his sixth season with the Rangers coming off that monster career season with the opportunity to contend for his first Hart Memorial Trophy and Art Ross Trophy this season.
