East leading Devils open two-game road trip in Carolina to face the Hurricanes
After Saturday’s road game was cancelled the Carolina Hurricanes hit the ice Tuesday night for the first time since Friday as they return to the Lenovo Center to face the red-hot New Jersey Devils in a Metropolitan Division clash. The Devils began the season with a two-game sweep of Buffalo in the Global Series games in Prague and have continued their hot start after returning to the states picking up wins at Washington and yesterday against Utah. New Jersey’s defense has been key to its early season success holding opponents to three goals or less in four of their first five games, all wins.

Devils winger Stefan Noesen has been a spark plug for the New Jersey offense scoring two goals and assisting on four others posting a team-high six points through his first five games. Noesen, the 31-year-old Plano, TX native, is in his 11th season in the NHL and his first with New Jersey after spending the last three seasons with Carolina where he scored 27 goals and tallied 46 assists before signing a three-year deal with New Jersey in July.
In his 19th NHL season, Canes center Jordan Staal netted the lone goal in Carolina’s opening day loss to Tampa Bay inching him closer to 300 career goals. Staal sits 14 goals away from 300 and comes into this season with four-straight double-digit goal scoring seasons.
The Devils rank fifth in the NHL killing 93.3% of opponents power plays while Carolina has yet to score a goal with the man advantage yet this season.
