Having alternated wins and losses over the first six games of their season-longest seven-game road trip, the Los Angeles Kings skate into Capital One Arena on Sunday evening to take on the Washington Capitals in the first of two meetings between the teams this season. The Caps snapped a two-game losing skid with a 3-1 home win over Carolina on Friday night for their fifth win in seven games as they bring the league’s second best scoring offense into this matchup against the Kings top ranked scoring defense. Washington swept Los Angeles last season winning each of the two meetings by one goal.

Washington center Dylan Strome leads the team with 38 points on the season despite being held without a point in each of his last two games. Strome, a first-round selection by Arizona in the 2015 NHL Draft, is on pace for a career high in assists and points in his third season in the nations capital. After two and a half seasons with the Coyotes, Strome was dealt to Chicago in 2019 where he spent three years before signing as a free agent in the summer of 2022.
Kings goaltender Darcy Kuemper is 8-2-5 this season with a team leading 2.36 goals against average, ranking seventh best in the NHL. Kuemper has held 13 consecutive opponents to three goals or less and has posted four wins in six December starts.
Washington has controlled this series of late winning eight of the last 10 meetings overall and seven of the last nine at home.
