Riding a season-longest six-game winning streak, the Los Angeles Kings skate into Newark on Thursday night to face off against the New Jersey Devils for the first of two meetings between the teams this season. After surrendering seven goals in a stunning road loss at San Jose, the Kings have held each of their last six opponents to two goals or less picking up wins against Winnipeg, Dallas, and Minnesota in a two-week span. The Devils have lost two in a row and are just 1-4 in their last five home games after being shutout by Colorado on Sunday then losing an overtime heartbreaker to Toronto on Tuesday.

Kings goaltender David Rittich ranks 10th in the National Hockey League with his 2.45 goals against average helping Los Angeles claim the league’s third best scoring defense. Rittich is 10-6 in his first 17 games this season winning each of his last three starts including his 100th career win in a 4-1 home win over the Jets. After a breakout season in 2018-19 where he won 27 games with Calgary, Rittich was traded to Toronto and spent time as a backup in Nashville and Winnipeg before landing in L.A. last season.
The Devils tandem of center Jack Hughes and winger Jasper Bratt have combined for 73 points this season with Bratt leading the team in both goals and assists. Bratt, a sixth-round pick by New Jersey in the 2016 NHL Draft, has played in every game each of the last three seasons and is on pace for his fourth consecutive 70-point season.
Los Angeles has won five of the last seven meetings in this series sweeping the Devils in two games last season but have alternated wins and losses in each of the last 10 trips to New Jersey dating back to March of 2015.
