The San Jose Sharks try to end an eight-game losing streak when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday.
The Tampa Bay Lightning and San Jose Sharks play the last game of the evening on an action-packed Thursday night in the NHL. This is the final game the Lightning and Sharks will play this season as Tampa Bay goes for the season-series shutout after a lopsided 8-1 win in Tampa at the beginning of December. The Lightning are fourth in the very close Atlantic division but are only six points of the lead. Tampa Bay is the overwhelming -260 favorite even on the road tonight. But the Lightning are trying to bounce back from a loss in their last game against the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday by a 5-2 final.

The Lightning were limited to just 23 shots and Montreal goalie Sam Montembeault was the first star of the game with 21 saves. Jake Evans scored for his career-high fifth consecutive game as Montreal has won six of its last seven games. Things didn’t look bad to start the game with Brandon Hagel tying up the game at one goal apiece just 37 seconds into the second period. The Canadiens took a 3-1 lead but Nikita Kucherov got Tampa within just one to end the period. That is where Tampa’s offense ran out though and Montreal scored two unanswered goals. Tampa is 0-7-1 when scoring less than three goals this season. Don’t expect the Lightning to slump similarly on offense tonight.
San Jose is searching for any answers to break up an eight-game losing streak. On top of that the Sharks have lost 11 of their last 12 games after its most recent game which ended in a 4-0 shutout against the Philadelphia Flyers on New Year’s Eve. San Jose was limited to just 22 shots and now it is just one loss away from matching its nine-game losing streak to start the season. At least it can only go up for the Sharks in the new year and they’re at home tonight.
