    Tampa Bay Lightning take on the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night coming off their 1st loss of the season

    The Tampa Bay Lightning (3-1-0) opened a three-game road trip on Saturday with a loss and now head to Scotiabank Arena on Monday night to visit the Toronto Maple Leafs (3-2-0), who also had a three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday. The Lightning have lost in the first round each of the last two seasons after three straight trips to the Stanley Cup Final while Toronto hasn’t been to the final since its last Cup victory in 1967 and has advanced beyond the first round just once in the last eight seasons.

    Tampa Bay lost to the host Ottawa Senators 5-4 on Saturday afternoon, with Mitchell Chaffee‘s goal at 8:11 of the third period getting the Lightning to within one goal. Nikita Kucherov scored his league-leading seventh goal of the season early in the second period and Anthony Cirelli had a pair of assists. Andrei Vasilevskiy has done all the goaltending thus far and is 3-1-0 with a .901 save percentage and 2.52 goals-against average.

    Auston Matthews scored the lone goal for the Maple Leafs on Saturday night in a 4-1 loss to the visiting New York Rangers. William Nylander and Bobby McMann have a team-high three goals each, while Mitch Marner and Max Domi lead the club with five points apiece. Anthony Stolarz is 2-2-0 in four starts with a .937 save percentage and 1.79 GAA.

    The Leafs brought in former St. Louis Blues coach Craig Berube to lead the team this year and have five players on injured reserve, while goalie Joseph Woll participated in a full practice Friday and appears close to a return from a lower-body injury. Jon Cooper has coached Tampa Bay since late in the 2012-13 season and has taken the team to the postseason 10 times in the last 11 seasons, including seven straight, with Stanley Cup wins in 2020 and 2021.
