Will Tuesday’s meeting between the Philadelphia Flyers and San Jose Sharks be as dramatic as their first matchup of the year, which went to a shootout?
In an interconference matchup on the New Year’s Eve NHL slate, the Philadelphia Flyers (16-17-4) visit the San Jose Sharks (11-22-6) at the SAP Center on Tuesday night. This game is the second matchup of the year between the two teams. They first met in mid-November in Philly. The Flyers had a three goal lead five minutes into the second period, but the Sharks fought back and ended up tying the game with about two and a half minutes to play. After a scoreless overtime, the Flyers won in a shootout. Philly right winger Matvei Michkov had a goal and an assist in regulation, then scored the deciding goal in the shootout in that one.

Coming into this game, the Flyers have alternated wins and losses over the last four games. Three of those were the start of a six game road trip that has the Flyers primarily on the West Coast. This trip started with a 7-3 loss at the Pittsburgh Penguins before the holiday break. After the break the Flyers had a back-to-back in Southern California this past weekend, in which they beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-1 on Saturday then lost to the Los Angeles Kings 5-4 on Sunday in their most recent game.
The Sharks are also coming off of a back-to-back, which they played Friday and Saturday to being a six-game homestand. They lost those two games to the Las Vegas Golden Knights and Calgary Flames.
