The Florida Panthers go for their seventh win in a row when they come back stateside to host the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Florida Panthers are easily proving why they are indeed the defending champs. Florida has won six games in a row when it hosts the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday. The Panthers are 10-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 at home and will be the easy favorite in Sunrise, FL with the Flyers sitting at the bottom of the Metropolitan division. Florida is coming off a series sweep against the Dallas Stars in the NHL Global Series in Tampere, Finland and a 6-2 victory against Nashville on Thursday once it got back stateside. The Panthers didn’t look rusty at all on Thursday, previously playing last Saturday against the Stars. Carter Verhaeghe had two goals and an assist to easily win the first star of the game. Aleksander Barkov was right behind him as the second star with three assists which is the second time in less than a week the center has accomplished that feat. The game was over relatively early when the Panthers scored the first four goals of the game with the outcome never in question. Florida now holds a five-point lead over over its closest competition in the Atlantic division over Toronto.

Philadelphia is is also coming off a win and avoided a three-game losing streak by beating the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 on Thursday in a shootout. The Flyers were really running out of time in regulation with Tampa Bay up one after scoring with less than a minute left in the first period. Owen Tippett tied the game with less than five minutes left in the third period. He then went on to score the second and final goal in the shootout to win the game after Travis Konecny first connected on a wrist shot. Tampa did not score in the shootout. Goalie Ivan Fedotov earned the first star of the game with 22 saves and a huge standout performance in the shootout. They will need an even bigger night from Fedotov if the Flyers are going to pull off this upset.
