Defending champ Panthers wrap four-game northern road trip in Ohio’s capital to face the Blue Jackets
A night after locking up their first road win of the season, the defending Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers look to earn a split on their four-game road trip on Tuesday night when they skate into central Ohio for what is likely to be an emotional night in the Columbus Blue Jackets home opener. Columbus will honor Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau tonight inside Nationwide Arena in the Blue Jackets first home game since the death their forward in late August after Johnny and his brother were struck by a drunk driver the day before their sisters wedding in New Jersey.

The Panthers have been sluggish to start the season scoring on just 13.3% of power play opportunities and allowing 3.75 goals per game defensively, ranking Florida 22nd in the NHL. Florida’s duo of centers Sam Reinhart and Sam Bennett each have three goals on the season and account for both of the Panthers power play goals through the first four games.
Columbus is 1-1 on the season after dropping their season opener at Minnesota before getting the seasons first win over Colorado on Saturday. The Blue Jackets attack has been paced by winger Yegor Chinakhov who has a goal and three assists in the first two games.
Florida has dominated this series of late winning 13 of the last 15 meetings including five in a row dating back to November of 2022. The Panthers swept both trips to Columbus last season outscoring the Blue Jackets 12-2 in their two road wins.
