The weekend of action in the National Hockey League kicked off on Friday with an eight-game slate on the schedule. First, the New Jersey Devils faced the Carolina Hurricanes at the Prudential Center. The Devils were able to come away with a 4-2 finish thanks to goals from Luke Hughes, Nico Hischier, Dawson Mercer and Ondrej Palát. Meanwhile, Brent Burns and Eric Robinson scored for Carolina in the loss away from home.

In other action around the league on Friday, the Detroit Red Wings host the Toronto Maple Leafs at Little Caesars Arena. The team from Canada used three goals from Mitchell Marner to take a 5-2 finish away from home.
David Kämpf and Nicholas Robertson also scored for the Maple Leafs, while Simon Edvinsson and Lucas Raymond found the back of the net for the Red Wings.
Then, the Columbus Blue Jackets and Boston Bruins faced off at Nationwide Arena, where the Blue Jackets won 6-2.
Dmitri Voronkov and Sean Monahan both notched a brace to go along with goals from Kirill Marchenko and Adam Fantilli to give Columbus the win at home. Charlie Coyle and Pavel Zacha got on the scoresheet for Boston.
Furthermore, the Minnesota Wild and Dallas Stars went into overtime at the American Airlines Center, where the Wild came away with a 3-2 finish. Jonas Brodin, Brock Faber and Marcus Foligno all found the back of the net for Minnesota.
