The Boston Bruins host the Calgary Flames on Thursday night as both teams try to move up from fourth place in their respective divisions.
The Boston Bruins are having a different start to their season in 2024. This time last year, the Bruins had only lost two games and opened the season with six wins in a row. Boston is 6-7-1 to open this season and are fourth in the Atlantic division. The Bruins are 4-3-0 at home and looking to get back to .500 in the win column when they host the Calgary Flames on Thursday night. They are coming off a shutout loss against another Canadian team losing to the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-0 on Tuesday. Boston actually had more shots than Toronto but Anthony Stolarz was a stalwart in the net stopping all 29 shots. It was the goalie’s first shutout of the season. The Maple Leafs scored four goals without captain Auston Matthews. Besides the last empty-net goal, Boston gave up three goals on the power play.

The Flames are going for back-to-back wins after beating the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 in overtime on Tuesday. Connor Zary scored the first goal of the game in the second period but Montreal came back scoring two straight goals. Things were getting dire until Calgary’s Matt Coronato scored the game-tying goal with less than three minutes left in the game. If that wasn’t enough, Coronato scored his fourth goal of the season which was the game-winner. The overtime goal came off a faceoff with just seven seconds left in the game.
