Surging Western Conference foes face off for the first time this season as the Oilers continues road trip against the Avalanche
After an overtime win to open their three-game road trip, the Edmonton Oilers skate into Ball Arena on Saturday night for the first of three meetings this season against the Colorado Avalanche. The Avs lost in Dallas on Friday, their second loss in three games but a return home to face Edmonton could right the ship as the Oilers have won just once in their last eight trips to Denver. Paced by the league’s sixth ranked power play unit, the Avalanche are scoring 3.29 goals per game this season but have failed to score more than three goals in six of their last seven games.

Reigning league MVP Nathan MacKinnon leads the National Hockey League with 29 assists this season and has 16 assists in 13 November games. MacKinnon, who was the number one overall by pick Colorado in the 2013 NHL Draft, is seven assists away from 600 for his career and is on pace to break his career high of 89 assists set last season.
Edmonton’s tandem of centers Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have combined for 29 goals and 33 assists so far this season as both scored a goal and collected an assist in the 4-3 overtime in Salt Lake City on Friday.
Despite ranking 20th in the NHL allowing 3.13 goals per game, Edmonton has found a bit of a groove defensively holding seven of their last nine opponents to three goals or less.
This is the first of three games between the teams this season as they will meet again in Denver in mid-January and will wrap the series in Alberta in early-February.
