Red-hot Capitals wrap up three-game home stand as Blue Jackets visit D.C.
Staking claim to the National Hockey League’s third best scoring offense, the Washington Capitals go for their eighth win in nine games on Saturday afternoon when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets inside Capital One Arena for the first of four meetings between the clubs this season. The Blue Jackets are opening a season longest five-game road trip that will keep them on away ice for the next two weeks. Columbus is 5-4-1 through the first 10 games and have won three of their last five but come into this game off a 6-2 home loss to Winnipeg on Friday night.

The Capitals have three skaters who have already accumulated 10 or more points this season led by center Dylan Strome who has tallied 13 points including a team high 10 assists in his first nine games. Strome, a first-round selection by Arizona in the 2015 NHL Draft, opened the season with a point in six straight games and has two assists in each of his last two games.
Veteran winger Alex Ovechkin has five goals this season for Washington bringing his career total to 858, and now sits 36 goals shy of tying Wayne Gretzky for the all-time leader in goals scored.
With at least a point in seven of his 10 games, Blue Jackets winger Kirill Marchenko leads Columbus with 12 points so far this season, his third in the league after the Jackets selected in in the second round of the 2018 draft.
Despite ranking 30th in the league on the power play, Washington is third in the NHL averaging 4.11 goals per game.
Washington swept Columbus in three games last season and has won seven of the last eight meetings overall.
