In the middle of a three-game Pacific Coast road trip, the Colorado Avalanche skate into the SAP Center on Thursday night to face off against the San Jose Sharks for the second of three meetings between the Western Conference foes this season. After a season-longest three-game winning streak the Sharks have lose five of their last six games losing twice on their home ice by identical 4-3 scores in their last two outings. Colorado has won 10 games in a row against the Sharks with eight of those victories coming by two or more goals and have won five in a row at San Jose.

Reigning league MVP Nathan MacKinnon leads the NHL in assists and points having posted 14 points in eight December games. MacKinnon, the number one overall pick by Colorado in the 2013 NHL Draft, is on pace for his third consecutive 110-point season and is 51 points away from 1,000 for his career. Already third on the Avalanche’s all-time points list, MacKinnon is will become the second fastest Colorado player to eclipse 1,000 points in a career behind Joe Sakic.
Sharks center Mikael Granlund leads San Jose with 32 points this season and has 10 multi-point games under his belt already this year. Granlund, in his second season with the Sharks, is on pace for a career high in points besting his 69 points tallied with Minnesota during the 2016-17 campaign.
Colorado ranks 10th in the league on the power play converting on 23.0% of chances with the man advantage but have scored just one power play goal in the last eight games and none in the last five.
