Washington Capitals look to complete a 3-game sweep of their Western swing as they visit the Utah Hockey Club for the 1st time
Alex Ovechkin keeps getting closer to history and the Washington Capitals (12-4-1, 25 points) keep on rolling. The Caps can complete a sweep of a three-game Western road trip on Monday night when they visit the Utah Hockey Club (7-7-3, 17 points). A hat trick on Sunday night leaves Ovechkin 28 goals away from tying Wayne Gretzky atop the all-time list as the 39-year-old now has 866 goals in his career. Utah had the weekend off after a loss at home on Friday night.

Ovechkin opened the scoring for Washington in its 5-2 road win over the Vegas Golden Knights while Logan Thompson improved to 8-0-1 in net, making 40 saves in his first visit the Las Vegas since a June trade to D.C. Ovechkin took over the Capitals’ goal-scoring lead with 13 while Dylan Strome has five goals and a team-high 26 points. Thompson has a .913 save percentage and a 2.63 goals-against average.
The Hockey Club save a 2-0 lead early in the second period turn into a 4-2 loss at home to the Golden Knights on Friday night. Logan Cooley and Mikhail Sergachev scored the goals for Utah. Dylan Gunther leads the team with seven goals while Clayton Keller has six and a team-high 15 points. Connor Inhram is 6-3-3 in 12 starts with an .879 save percentage and 3.40 GAA.
The Hockey Club is the former Arizona Coyotes franchise, moved over the summer after an ownership change. The team is being treated as a new franchise, leaving the combined history of the Coyotes and the old Winnipeg Jets in the desert.
