The Red Wings are trying to win their third game in a row and their fourth of their last five after beating the Philadelphia Flyers 6-4 on Wednesday. Patrick Kane turned back the clock a bit and became the first star of the game with one goal and an assist. This game was very back-and-forth with each team answering the bell. Detroit scored two goals to end the second to go up 4-2, but Philly came right back at the top of the third scoring two goals of their own to tie the game. But it was Kane’s fourth goal of the season that did the trick to get the go-ahead goal and the Flyers finally couldn’t respond any longer. Detroit iced the game late with an empty-net goal. Detroit will try to get back to .500 in the win column tonight with a 13-14-4 record.
Montreal is coming off a very dominating victory against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday by a 6-1 final. The Canadiens set the tone early, scoring just 19 seconds into the game. Patrick Laine scored soon after that on the power play for the first of his three goals of the night. Buffalo got within a goal to start the second, but then the floor fell out from underneath the Sabres with Montreal scoring the next four goals, including back-to-back Laine goals that were both on the power play. Neither team scored in the third period. If Montreal can keep up its prowess on the power play, that could be the difference in getting this road upset.
