Can the Colorado Avalanche (46-20-5) push their winning streak to double digits? That’s exactly what head coach Jared Bednar’s team will be trying to do on Tuesday night, when they welcome the Montreal Canadiens (26-32-12) to Ball Arena? Colorado has won nine games in a row and 11 of its last 12. Still, the Avalanche will need every win they can get down the stretch. They enter play on Tuesday sitting in a tie at the top of the NHL’s Central Division with 97 standings points, knotted with the Dallas Stars (although they do have a game in hand). They’re also one point back for the top overall seed in the West, behind the Vancouver Canucks.

Extending the winning streak hasn’t always been easy for the Avalanche though. Four of their nine wins have come in overtime. That includes their most recent game, a 5-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins in Denver on Sunday. Colorado allowed four goals in the first 31 minutes of that game, before responding with four unanswered to force overtime. They then won an extra minute into the extra period with left wing Jonathan Drouin scoring the game-winner – his second goal of the game.
The Canadiens are coming in off a single win. They wrap up a five-game Western Conference road trip that saw them go 1-2-1 through the first four games. They topped the Seattle Kraken 5-1 on Sunday behind two goals from center Alex Newhook and 36 saves from goalie Cayden Primeau.
