Goalie Ivan Fedotov made 23 saves and didn’t let up a goal until midway through the third period. Philly is now tied in points with the New York Islanders with 18 for fifth place in the Metropolitan standings. Despite the recent success, the Flyers are still the underdogs even at home. The Avalanche will hold the advantage with the line tonight which is set at -175 for Colorado.
The Avalanche meanwhile had a three-game winning streak broken up by losing by the same 5-2 score against the Washington Capitals at home on Friday. The Avalanche scored the first goal of the game from Parker Kelly but the Capitals scored three straight after that. Conor McMichael scored twice and the Capitals cruised to victory by scoring four goals on their first 10 shots of the game.
Nikolai Kovalenko got the Avs back within one goal early in the second period but the team couldn’t score again. It certainly didn’t help that Colorado was only able to produce 19 shots on goal. Like Philadelphia, Colorado also has 18 points on the season which is good enough for fourth in the Central.
