Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions will take the field against Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night.
The Detroit Lions will travel west to San Francisco, California, on Monday night for the last game of Week 17 in the NFL regular season. In California, they will take the field against the hometown San Francisco 49ers at Levi Stadium. The Lions are 13-2 heading into this Monday Night Football game. They are currently the best team in the conference, but the No. 2 ranked team in the division. The Minnesota Vikings won yesterday so they now have a 14-2 record which puts them, for the moment, on top of Detroit.
However, assuming Detroit comes away with a win in this game, they will both be 14-2 and play next week for the division and the NFC’s No. 1 seed. This could be the first time in NFL history that two teams in the same division finish the season with 14 wins. The passing game, led by Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown, have connected for 4,095 yards and 33 touchdowns.
The 49ers have been a staple of success over recent years, but this has not been the same year. Injuries have demolished the starting lineup, with superstar running back Christian McCaffrey seeing just a handful of games and Brandon Aiyuk going down early. They are 6-9 this season and, currently, the worst team in the NFC West, a half-game behind the Arizona Cardinals.
They have lost five of their last six games this season and have been tumbling down the standings. Quarterback Brock Purdy has thrown for 3,487 yards and 17 touchdowns with 10 interceptions. George Kittle leads the team in receiving with 967 yards and eight touchdowns on 68 receptions.
