The Detroit Lions look for their best start since 1934 when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Watch free on Fubo.
It is starting to look official. The Detroit Lions are the best team in the NFL. Technically speaking that can’t be the case with the Kansas City Chiefs holding a perfect 9-0 record. But that record required some blocked kick magic at the end of the game against the Denver Broncos last week at home. The Lions didn’t have their best game at all last week against the Houston Texans on Sunday Night Football but they still managed to win. If Detroit and Kansas City have one thing in common is that good teams find a way to win no matter what.

That is exactly what Detroit did beating the Texans 26-23 for its seventh win in a row. The Lions were able to overcome monumental odds for the victory with Detroit being down 23-7 at halftime. But the Lions didn’t allow Houston to score in the second half to pull off the improbable comeback. Detroit was down so much in the first place because QB Jared Goff threw five interceptions compared to two touchdowns. The defense kept Detroit in the game and Jake Bates rewarded the Lions faithful by just squeezing in a 52-yard walk off field goal to win the game. This AFC South opponent will be much easier this week with Detroit favored by 13.5 points at home against Jacksonville.
It won’t help the 2-8 Jaguars that QB Trevor Lawrence will be out for this game with a left shoulder injury. This is the second consecutive game Lawrence will be out as the team hopes to get him back after a bye week next week. It didn’t go great without him last week with Jacksonville putting up just 143 yards in a 12-7 loss at home to the Minnesota Vikings.
The defense played great forcing Sam Darnold to throw three interceptions but the Jags also coughed up the ball three times. Mac Jones started in place for Lawrence but wasn’t able to get much going throwing for 111 yards with two interceptions. Even if Jones completely turns it around in this start today, this is still a monumental foe to dethrone.
