Philadelphia Eagles look to improve to 2-0 in their real home opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night
The Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) return to the field on Monday night after a lenghty break following their victory over the Green Bay Packers in São Paulo, Brazil, on Sept. 6. The Eagles play their actual home opener (they were the designated home team in Brazil) when the Atlanta Falcons (0-1) come to Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The Eagles downgraded wide receiver A.J. Brown to out on Sunday as he deals with a hamstring injury. Linebacker Nate Landman won’t go for Atlanta because of calf and quad injuries while cornerback Antonio Hamilton is out with a groin issue.

Saquon Barkley‘s spectacular debut for Philadelphia sparked the team to a 34-29 victory in Brazil. The former New York Giants star ran for 109 yards and two scores and also caught a touchdown pass. Jalen Hurts overcame two interceptions, finishing 20-of-34 for 278 yards and two TDs, including a 67-yard pass to Brown, who finished with 119 receiving yards. Defensively, Zack Baun had 11 solo tackles, including two sacks.
The Falcons kept the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers out of the end zone on Sept. 8 and held them to 270 yards of offense but lost an 18-10 decision. Kirk Cousins was intercepted twice in his debut for Atlanta, finishing 16-of-26 for 155 yards and a touchdown, while Bijon Robinson ran for 68 yards on 18 carries. The Falcons were blanked in the second half after leading 10-9 at the break and their last, best chance to score was thwarted when Cousins was picked off with less than three minutes remaining with the ball in Pittsburgh territory.
The Eagles won at Atlanta 32-6 in their last meeting in Week 1 of the 2021 season. The last time the Falcons visited Philadelphia was for the season-opening Thursday night game in 2018 and the Eagles are 18-14-1 against Atlanta in the regular season and 3-1 in the playoffs.
