Horizon League play begins Wednesday night for Youngstown State with a road game against Robert Morris in college basketball.
The most important part of the 2024-25 college basketball season begins on Wednesday night for Robert Morris and Youngstown State, as the teams meet at the UPMC Events Center to kick-off Horizon League play. The Penguins come into conference play with a record of 3-5 so far this season and will look to build on the momentum from their most recent win, a lopsided 128-60 victory over Bethany on Saturday.
In the win, Gabe Dynes came off the bench and led the Penguins in scoring with a career-high 23 points. He was joined in double figures by five of his teammates with Cris Carroll also reaching the 20-point mark with an even 20 on the night. Carroll and Dynes also led Youngstown State on the boards, each pulling down eight rebounds in the win. The team shot an impressive 63 percent from the field and 48 percent from three-point range while going 16-for-22 from the line.

The Colonials have found some early success this season with a record of 6-3 so far, but will need to bounce back from a recent 85-68 loss to Ohio. Robert Morris started out slow against the Bobcats, trailing by 12 at halftime. Although the team battled to get back in the game, the deficit was too much to overcome. Josh Omojafo led the team in scoring with 15 points and Antallah Sandlin-El was right behind him with 14 points on the night. Ismael Plet and Alvaro Folgueiras each pulled down seven rebounds to lead on the boards.
Youngstown State and Robert Morris have met 29 times over the last 35 years and the Penguins currently hold the series advantage at 15-14. The teams met twice last season and Youngstown State won both meetings with the first being a 71-57 victory on the road and the second being an 87-77 win at home.
