Wyoming and Loyola Marymount will play for the title in the Riviera Division of the Cancun Challenge on Wednesday night.
The final teams have been decided for the championship game of the Cancun Challenge after some exciting semifinal games on Tuesday night. The Lions improved to 2-3 on the season by beating Belmont in a 77-63 victory to advance in tournament play. The team led by as many as 24 points while hitting the most field goals (31) and recording the most steals (8) this season. The offense was led by Will Johnston who went 8-for-15 from the field and 4-for-10 from long range to record a game-high 22 points. Jevon Porter was a force under the basket, pulling down 12 rebounds, 11 of which were defensive, and adding 16 points to the scoreboard for a double-double.

The Cowboys narrowly squeaked by Tulane in Tuesday night’s game with a one-point 64-63 victory to earn a championship berth. The team is now 5-1 on the season and has won three games in a row. Obi Agbim paced four Cowboys to double digits in the finish with his game-high 18 points. Touko Tainamo finished the game with 13 points while Cole Henry and Jordan Nesbitt each added 10 points to the scoreboard. Nesbitt cam off the bench and made an impact with his 13 rebounds to earn his fourth double-double of the season. The team were trailing by as many as 16 points during the second half, but battled back to win its third straight game.
Wednesday’s championship game will be the third meeting between Wyoming and Loyola Marymount. The Cowboys have won both games with the most recent dating back to 2009 and resulted in a 76-70 win at home.
