Wichita State and Temple will begin American Athletic Conference play on Friday night when the teams meet in men’s college basketball action.
The Wichita State Shockers will travel to Philadelphia on Friday to begin American Athletic Conference college basketball play with a game against the Temple Owls at the Liacouras Center. The Shockers are off to a strong start this season and come into conference play with an overall record of 10-3. The team has won two games in a row with the latest game being an 87-72 win over Friends University on Sunday. In the win, Xavier Bell led all scorers with 29 points and was joined in double figures by three other Shockers. Center Quincy Ballard was one of those players and earned a double-double with 17 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. On the season, Justin Hill leads the scoring with an average of 14.0 points per game and Bell is close behind with an average of 13.9 points per game.Â

The Owls are currently 8-5 on the season with the most recent being a 91-71 win over Buffalo at home on Sunday. Jamal Mashburn Jr. led all scorers with 18 points, while Quante Berry and Zion Stanford finished closely behind with 15 points apiece. Steve Settle III added 13 points to the scoreboard and pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds to earn a double-double in the win. The team shot an impressive 52 percent from the field and 38 percent from beyond the arc, but could improve from the foul line as the Owls only shot 23-for-35 from there.
Temple and Wichita State played each other twice last season and the Owls won both meetings with a 68-61 win in the first game and a 76-66 win the second time around. Temple now leads the all-time series 8-6.
