A Bluegrass State battle will take place Tuesday night as Kentucky hosts Western Kentucky in men’s basketball action.
On Tuesday night, Western Kentucky will travel to Lexington for a non-conference matchup against No. 9 Kentucky at Rupp Arena. The Hilltoppers dropped their first two games of the season, but have won their last three to bring a record of 3-2 into Tuesday night’s game. On Wednesday, the team hosted Jackson State, earning a 79-62 win in front of 2300 fans.
The Hilltoppers’ offense was led by Khristian Lander who finished the game with 15 points. Don Mchenry and Julius Thedford joined Lander in double figures with 13 and 12, points respectively. Tyrone Marshall Jr. led on the boards with 10 rebounds, all of which were defensive. The Hilltoppers shot 43 percent from the field and 45 percent from beyond the arc. While there is still work to be done to prepare for the start of conference play, the team has a lot of promise for a strong finish in the Conference USA standings.

The Wildcats got off to a strong start this season and have continued that momentum. The team is now 5-0 on the season and have earned some high-scoring wins so far. On November 12th, Kentucky played Duke and played to a 77-72 win at State Farm Arena in Atlanta as part of two-game special with Kansas and Michigan State playing the earlier game in the night.
Most recently, the Wildcats hosted Jackson State and won handily in a 108-59 victory. Koby Brea scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Kentucky scoring, but Otega Oweh was right on his tail, finishing the game with 21 points. Brandon Garrison and Amari Williams shared rebounding responsibilities as they each pulled down eight on the night to lead on the boards.
Kentucky and Western Kentucky have met seven times before and the Wildcats hold a 5-2 advantage in the series. The last meeting between the two teams dates back to 2021 when Kentucky won big in a 95-60 victory.
