St. John’s (2-0) moved into the Associated Press poll on Monday, checking in at No. 22, and on Wednesday night hosts Wagner (1-1) at Carnesecca Arena. The Red Storm haven’t been to the NCAA tournament since 2019 and were 20-13 in Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino’s first season in 2023-24. The Seahawks won their first NCAA tournament game in last spring’s First Four before losing to No. 1 seed UNC and coach Donald Copeland is 33-30 in his third season at the school.

St. John’s shook off a sluggish first half, hanging up 61 points after intermission to run away from visiting Quinnipiac 96-73 on Saturday. RJ Luis Jr. finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds, Brady Dunlap added 20 points off the bench and Deivon Smith logged 13 points and 10 assists.
Wagner got its first win on Saturday afternoon, thumping Manor College of the U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association 94-52. Reserve Ja’Kair Sanchez led the attack with 17 points, Tyje Kelton tossed in 15 and Javier Ezquerra booked 12 points, 10 assists and four steals.
The Red Storm is 19-2 all-time against the Seahawks and have won the last 12 meetings dating back to the 1956-57 season. The last time they played St. John’s got an 86-63 win on Nov. 30, 2019. Luis leads the Red Storm with 36 points and 15 rebounds, Simeon Wilcher has 31 points, Kadary Richmond checks in with 15 rebounds and Smith has 16 assists. Sanchez leads Wagner with 20 points, Kelton has 14 rebounds and Ezquerra leads the squad with 12 assists.
