The Volunteers are also undefeated this season with a perfect 4-0 record. The team started off the season with an exhibition game against No. 17 Indiana and fell in a close 66-62 defeat, but bounced back to beat Gardner-Webb handily in an 80-64 in the official season opener. Since then, the Vols have been dominant with the most recent game being a massive 103-68 win against Austin Peay on Sunday.
Behind senior forward Igor Miličić Jr.’s game-high 23 points, Tennessee shot an impressive 63.8 percent which ties for its fifth-highest shooting percentage in the last 20 seasons. Miličić Jr. also led the team on the boards with nine rebounds to narrowly miss a double-double in the win. With the win over the Governors, the team is now averaging 88 points per game which gives the Vols an average scoring margin of 27 points which will come in handy as they start playing some more talented teams.
The winner of Thursday’s game will go on to play either Baylor or St. John’s in the championship game to be played on Friday night.
