Virginia Military Institute (VMI) will travel to North Carolina at the start of the third weekend in the men’s college basketball regular season. In North Carolina, they will take on Davidson at the John M. Belk Arena. The Keydets are 4-2 through their first two and a half weeks of the regular season. They opened up the year with a 49-point win over Washington College in Maryland. They followed it up with their first road win of the season in the SoCon/ASUN Challenge, beating Bellarmine by five points in Kentucky. They started the next week with a 46-point win over Christendom.
Their first loss of the season came against Tennesee Tech at home in the Greenbrier Tip-Off in the River Division by just one point. They came back in that same tournament and won the third-place game against Charleston Southern by 11 points. They lost their last game by almost 50 points to Pitt. Augustinas Kiudulas leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 18.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
The Wildcats are 3-0 this season heading into this game. They opened the season on college basketball’s opening night, beating William Pace by 41 points. They went on the road later that week beating Bowling Green in their first road game by six points. Their last game was last weekend when they came back home and beat ETSU by six points.
Connor Kochera leads the team in scoring as a fifth-year senior in his third season with the team after transferring from William and Mary. Kochera is averaging 18.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. Reed Bailey averages 17.7 points and a team-high 7.7 rebounds per game with 2.0 assists per game.
