Villanova makes the trip to Hawk Hill for the first Big Five matchup of the new season at Saint Joseph’s on Tuesday.
Villanova (2-1) and Saint Joseph’s (1-1) open their Big Five slate on Tuesday night when the Wildcats visit Hagen Arena in Philadelphia to take on the Hawks. Villanova missed the postseason in 2024, the first time it had done so since 2012, finishing 18-16. Saint Joseph’s, meanwhile, last played postseason basketball in 2016, its last appearance in the NCAA tournament. Former Wildcats assistant coach Kyle Neptune returned to the program in 2022 to replace retiring Jay Wright and is 37-34 in his third season. Billy Lange is a City of Brotherly Love fixture, working two seasons as an assistant coach at the former Philadelphia University (now Thomas Jefferson University), another two years at La Salle, five seasons at Villanova in two stints, and six years as a Philadelphia 76ers’ assistant. He is 60-92 in his sixth season and took the Hawks to the NIT last season.
