Mason Falslev and Utah State will take the court against Nick Boyd and No. 20 San Diego State on Saturday at Viejas Arena.
San Diego State, the No. 20 ranked men’s college basketball team in the nation, will take their home court at Viejas Arena on Saturday night. In San Diego, California, they will welcome in their opposition, Utah State. The Aztecs head into this weekend with an 8-2 record. They lost their first game early in November against the former No. 3-ranked Gonzaga by 13 points at home. However, they immediately went to the Players Era Festival and beat former No. 21-ranked Creighton before losing to Oregon in the second round in their only other loss.
In the third-place match of that same tournament, they took down former No. 6-ranked Houston. They rose back into the top 25 after those wins and since then have taken down Fresno State on the road, San Diego at home, CA Baptist at home, and California on a neutral court in San Jose. Nick Boyd leads the team in scoring this season, averaging 13.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game, playing in all 10 games.
The Aggies are 11-1 overall this season heading into this contest. They won four games in November before heading on the road, beating Iowa in the Hall of Fame Classic, St. Bonaventure in the NIT Season Tip-Off, and North Texas in the championship game of that same tournament. They opened December with three wins at home against Wyoming, Utah Tech, and South Florida.
After a 10-0 start to the season, they lost unpredictably to UC San Diego at home by two points. However, they did bounce back against Saint Mary’s in the next game, winning 75-68. They are still very much a threat, though, led by Mason Falslev. The sophomore guard averages 17.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game.
