Georgetown (6-1) brings a four-game winning streak into Monday night’s matchup with UMBC (5-4) at Capital One Arena in Washington. It is the last of eight consecutive home games to open the season for the Hoyas, who dropped their lone matchup against a power-conference opponent. The Retrievers have won two straight and are 0-1 in true road games. Georgetown was 9-23 last season and hasn’t played postseason basketball since 2021. UMBC dropped to 11-21 last season and played in the 2022 TBC. The program is most well-known for becoming the first No. 16 seed to beat a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament when they took down Virginia in 2018.

The Hoyas rocked visiting Albany 100-68 on Saturday for their fourth straight win. Micah Peavy went for 24 points, eight assists, four steals and three blocks, while Malik Mack scored 16 points and Thomas Sorber finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Peavy gets 15.9 points per game, with Sorber averaging 14.7 points and 9.0 boards.
The Retrievers return from a holiday break after beating visiting Morgan State 92-69 on Wednesday afternoon. Marcus Banks Jr. led a balanced effort with 14 points, while Bryce Johnson booked 11 points and six assists in just 19 minutes. Johnson scores 15.9 points per game, while Banks averages 13.3 points and 5.1 rebounds.
Georgetown is 6-0 all-time against UMBC and won the most recent matchup at home 79-70 on Nov. 26, 2022. Coach Jim Ferry is 52-53 in his fourth season at the helm of the Retrievers, while Ed Cooley is 15-24 in his second year leading the Hoyas.
