Saint Joseph’s will open play in the UKG Legends Classic Thursday night with a game against Texas Tech in men’s college basketball action.
On Thursday night, Texas Tech and Saint Joseph’s will kick off the UKG Legends Classic in New York City with a game at the Barclays Center. The Hawks bring a two-game win streak into Thursday’s contest, bringing their overall record to 3-1. The team’s last time on the court was on Friday night with a game against Penn which resulted in an 86-69 victory. With the win against the Quakers, St. Joe’s secured a spot in the 2024 Toyota Big 5 Classic title game on December 7 at the Wells Fargo Center versus either La Salle or Temple. Against Penn, three Hawks topped the stat sheet as the game’s leading scorers with Derek Simpson, Erik Reynolds II and Rasheer Fleming each scoring 15 points. Xzayvier Brown and Steven Solano also finished the game in double figures with 11 points each. Brown led the team on the boards with seven rebounds and Fleming was right behind him with six. The team shot 46.4% from the field and 38.5% from beyond the arc in the win.

The Red Raiders come into Thursday’s contest with an undefeated record of 4-0 so far, but the team has not played anyone to really give them a challenge just yet. Most recently, Texas Tech played Arkansas-Pine Bluff, winning 98-64 at home. The Red Raiders had six players score in double figures, led by Darrion Williams who finished with a game-high 19 points. JT Toppin led Texas Tech on the boards with 11 rebounds to go along with 14 points for a double-double. Texas Tech shot for an impressive 59.6%, going 37-62 from the field and the team went 14-35 from the three-point line.
Thursday night’s game will be the third meeting between Texas Tech and Saint Joseph’s. The last time these two teams met was during the second round of the 2004 NCAA tournament and the Hawks earned a 70-65 win to advance to the Sweet 16.
