    Southern Illinois will travel to Gainesville, Florida, on Friday night in the third weekend of the men’s college basketball regular season. In Gainesville, they will take on the No. 22 ranked team in the nation, Florida, at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center. The Gators are undefeated this season, with a 5-0 record through two and a half weeks of the season. They opened up against South Florida in the Jacksonville Sports Foundation Invitational and won by 15 points. They followed it up that week with a win over Jacksonville by 21 points.

    In the second week, they had their biggest win of the season against Grambling at home, winning by 24 points. Later that week, they went on the road for the first time this year and beat Florida State by 13 points before beating Florida A&M back home earlier this week by 24 points, tying their biggest win. Walter Clayton Jr leads the team in scoring with 18.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game.

    The Salukis are 2-2 heading into this game in four games. They lost their season opener in the Field of 68 Showcase to Charleston by just 10 points. They went back home and beat Missouri S&T at the end of that week by 22 points. They played just one game in their second week against Oklahoma State in Stillwater and lost by just seven points.

    Earlier this week, they went back to Carbondale, Illinois, and took on North Dakota State, winning by 25 points. Senior guard Elijah Elliot leads the team in scoring this season, averaging 16.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. He is followed by Kennard Davis Jr, who averages 14.8 points per game.
