SMU will travel to Indianapolis, Indiana, on Friday, in the second week of the regular season in men’s college basketball. There, they will take on the hometown team, Butler, at the Hinkle Fieldhouse. For the first time this season, the Mustangs will head on the road. They are undefeated this season through three games opening the season with a 34-point win over Tarleton State led by Boopie Miller, who dropped 21 points with seven assists. From there, they welcomed Florida A&M and beat them by 29 points. Miller scored 20 points with nine rebounds and nine assists in 31 minutes. Earlier this week, they took on UNC Greensboro and won by just 13 points. For the third straight game, Miller led the team with 21 points and seven assists. B.J. Edwards had 17 points and seven rebounds as well.
The Bulldogs are 2-1 through their first week and a half of the regular season. They opened up the year with Montana State at home and beat them, 72-65. Jahmyl Telfort led the team with 29 points and four rebounds in his second season with Butler after transferring from Northeastern. Their only loss game last weekend against Austin Peay, also at home.
Despite the two-point loss, Patrick McCaffery dropped 23 points and eight rebounds to lead the team with only 12 points total coming off the bench. Earlier this week, they took on Western Michigan and got back on the winning side with a 20-point victory. Pierre Brooks II, the team’s leading scorer from last season, had 20 points and six assists.
