Seton Hall and VCU will both travel to Charleston, South Carolina, on Thursday, the third week of the regular season of men’s college basketball. In Charleston, these two teams will take the court at TD Arena in the first round of the Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic. The winner and loser of this game will go on to face off against the winner and loser of the Vanderbilt vs Nevada matchup. Seton Hall heads into this tournament with a 2-2 record on the season, while Virginia Commonwealth is undefeated at 4-0 through two weeks.
The undefeated Rams opened up their season on their home court at the Siegel Center and took down Bellarmine by 19 points. They followed it up that same week with a 25-point win against the ACC’s Boston College in the Veterans Classic. Heading into the second week, they played both games at home as well beating Merrimack by 19 points and Loyola Maryland by 26 points.
The Pirates have lost two games through four total this season. They opened the year with a win against Saint Peter’s by just four points before dropping their first game at home against Fordham in just a one-point defeat. Last week, they fell by one point again to Hofstra in the Icons of the Game before bouncing back against Wagner later that week, winning 54-28 in a very low-scoring matchup.
Seton Hall’s player to watch out for in this tournament is their leading scorer Chaunce Jenkins. The 6-foot-4 fifth-year senior transfer from Old Dominion is averaging 14.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 45.7% from the field. VCU’s top threat has been Joe Bamisile, who is in his second year with the team after transferring from Oklahoma. He is averaging 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.
