Chaunce Jenkins and Seton Hall will take on AJ Hoggard and Vanderbilt in the semifinals of the Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic.
Seton Hall will stay in Charleston, South Carolina, today to take on Vanderbilt in the second semifinal of the Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic at TD Arena. The Pirates came into this tournament with a 2-2 record through the first three weeks of the season. They beat Saint Peter’s and Wagner while losing to Fordham and Hofstra. In this tournament, they opened up in the first round with a game against VCU. After being down three points at the halftime break, they came back and won the second half by three points sending the game to overtime.
In overtime, Seton Hall won by three points, eventually winning the game 69-66. Chaunce Jenkins, a senior guard, led the team with 22 points, more than his average of 14.8 points per game. Isaiah Coleman was the only other player in double figures and the only player on Seton Hall with a double-double, finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds. David Tubek led the bench with nine points in reserve fashion.
The Commodores came into this tournament undefeated, with a 4-0 record through two weeks. they took down MD Eastern, SE Missouri, California, and Jackson State prior to this week. They ended the first half with a two-point lead and fought hard in the second half. They were up by three points, 70-66, with 30 seconds left before Nevada hit a three, bringing the game to a point. Edwards hit two free throws before Nevada hit a bucket.
After a foul, Devin McGlockton went to the line and iced the game with a free throw, leading Vanderbilt to a 73-71 win. AJ Hoggard, the former Michigan State guard, had 18 points and seven rebounds to lead the team. MJ Collins Jr came off the bench and finished with 15 points, including three threes. Jason Edwards was the third player in double figures with 16 points and three rebounds.
