On Wednesday night, the Sacramento State men’s college basketball team will travel to Denver, Colorado. They will play Denver at the Hamilton Gymnasium in the Big Sky-Summit Challenge. The Hornets are 2-5 overall this season as the Big Sky part of this challenge. They opened their season at home against Cal Maritime winning one of their two games in The Nest by over 60 points. They went on the road after that losing two straight games against Fresno State and UC San Diego. Heading back home, they lost to CSU Northridge in the next game.

After that, they went on the road to Berkeley, California, to participate in the Cal Classic. They lost to California, followed by their second win of the season against Air Force by two points. Their last game ended in a six-point loss against Mercyhurst. Senior forward Jacob Holt leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.
The Pioneers are 3-6 overall this season as the Summit Conference representatives. They lost their opening game on the road against Stanford before winning one of their three games at home against West Colorado. They went back on the road, losing to Colorado State before heading back home and beating Colorado Christian and Montana State. Their in-season tournament was the Stew Morrill Classic.
They lost three straight games in that tournament against Montana, CSU Northridge, and Utah Tech. Last weekend, they lost to Portland on the road by 11 points. Junior guard Nicholas Shogbonyo leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.
