Prairie View A&M will head on the road in the team’s second games of the season in men’s college basketball, taking on the Big East’s DePaul at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois, on Thursday night. The Blue Demons are looking to have a better season than they did last year after finishing awful in conference play and overall. The team’s leading scorer, Chico Carter Jr., averaged 10.9 points per game and will not be back with the team this season.
Only one other player averaged double-digit points, and that was Elijah Fisher, who averaged 10.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game and is now with Pacific. They also lost Jalen Terry, Dramane Camara, and Jaden Henley. They did bring in former Arkansas Razorback Layden Blocker, who was a four-star recruit. They also brought in Patrick Suemnick from West Virginia and JJ Traynor from Louisville. Blocker averaged 3.7 points and 1.6 rebounds last year. Traynor averaged 10.1 points and 4.6 rebounds with the Cardinals.
The Panthers took down Bible Studies in their first game of the season on Monday. The ex-Omaha player, Marcel Bryant dominated the start of the game. After averaging just 3.7 points per game last season, he had four points in the first 10 minutes on perfect shooting. He is going to play a big role for this team this year.
The other player who will be a big star is point guard Orlando Horton, Jr. In his freshman season with this team last year, he averaged 6.3 points and 1.9 assists in just 19.2 minutes per game. As a starter this season, those numbers are going to do nothing but multiply.
