Penn will head south on Monday to take on VCU as non-conference play begins to wind down in college basketball.
On Monday night, the Siegel Center will play host to home side VCU and visiting Penn as the teams square-off in men’s non-conference basketball action in Virginia. The Quakers come into Monday’s game with a record of 3-6 so far and will look to break a two-game losing streak with a win over the Rams. The team’s most recent game was played at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Saturday as the Quakers took part in the Big 5 Classic against Drexel, falling in a 60-47 defeat. Nick Spinoso led all scorers with 21 points in the loss and added seven rebounds to the stat sheet. Ethan Roberts was the only other Quaker in double figures with 11 points while Michelangelo Oberti led on the boards with nine rebounds. The team struggled with shooting, finishing the game at 33 percent from the field, 22 percent from long range and just 50 percent from the foul line. The Quakers will definitely need to improve upon those statistics as they get closer to Ivy League play.

The Rams have gotten off to a strong start this season and bring a record of 7-2 into Monday night’s home game. The team has won three straight with the most recent being an 89-54 victory over Georgia Southern on Wednesday. Max Shulga led the Rams offensively with a career-high-tying 29 points on the team’s way to a 35-point victory. Phillip Russell and Alphonzo “Fats” Billups III were also in double figures with 17 and 14 points, respectively. Billips III and Joe Bamisile each pulled down six rebounds to lead on the boards and help the Rams hold onto possession in the win.
