Oklahoma State and Nevada look to leave the Charleston Classic with a pair of wins as they meet for fifth place on Sunday
Oklahoma State (4-1) and Nevada (5-1) bounced back from opening-day losses at the Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic at TD Arena in Charleston, South Carolina, with wins on Friday to set up a matchup in Sunday’s fifth-place game from the event. The Cowboys are under firstyear coach Steve Lutz, who replaced Mike Boynton in March after a 12-20 campaign. Lutz took Western Kentucky to the NCAA tournament last year in his lone season at the school, while Oklahoma State last danced in 2021. The Wolf Pack have played in the last two NCAA tourmaments, with coach Steve Alford posting a 101-60 record in his sixth season.

The Cowboys led by as much as 20 early in the second half in their 80-74 win over Miami on Friday. Bryce Thompson scored 17 points and Marchelus Avery added 15 off the bench in the victory, with Avery adding eight rebounds. Thompson scores 13.2 points per game, with Avery averaging 13.0 points and 5.4 rebounds.
Nevada erased a double-digit halftime deficit and Kobe Sanders’ 3-pointer with five seconds to go lifted it to a 64-61 win over VCU. Nick Davidson led the offense with 15 points and Sanders scored 10 as the Wolf Pack got back into the game with a 14-0 run midway through the second half. Davidson averages 16.0 points and 7.7 rebounds while Sanders gets 15.0 points per game.
Sunday’s matchup is just the second between the programs. Oklahoma State claimed a 70-50 victory in a neutral-site game in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Dec. 30, 1996.
