Ohio (1-4) couldn’t get a stop at the end of regulation and lost its quarterfinal at the Myrtle Beach Invitational in overtime on Thursday. Now the Bobcats move into the consolation bracket of the event and face Portland (2-3), which ran out of gas down the stretch in its loss on Thursday. Ohio has lost its last two games and are 99-64 in their sixth season under coach Jeff Boals, who led them to the NCAA tournament in 2021. The Pilots haven’t been dancing since 1996 and played in The Basketball Classic in 2022. Coach Shantay Legans is 47-58 in his fourth year at Portland.

A 3-pointer from Middle Tennessee with four seconds left in regulation tied things and AJ Brown’s last-second 3-pointer was off the mark as the Bobcats fell in overtime 83-81 on Thursday. Brown had 19 points while AJ Clayton finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds and Jackson Paveletzke notched 15 points and 11 assists. Brown scores 15.0 points per game, with Clayton averaging 12.8 points and 6.0 boards.
The Pilots erased an 11-point second-half deficit, tying the game with 2:05 remaining before South Florida pulled away for a 74-68 win on Thursday. Max MacKinnon went for 17 points and Vincent Delano scored 14 off the bench in the loss. Vukasin Masic nets 12.8 points per game while Austin Rapp averages 12.2 points and 7.4 rebounds.
Ohio is 3-1 all-time against Portland, with the most recent meeting resulting in an 81-52 homecourt blowout win for the Bobcats on Nov. 10, 2012.
