DQ Cole and Oakland will take the court against Will Riley and Illinois on Wednesday night.
On Wednesday night, Oakland will travel to Champaign, Illinois, in the second week of the men’s college basketball season. The Fighting Illini have been impressive through the first week of the season, picking up two wins. They welcomed Eastern Illinois to the State Farm Center and crushed the team 112-67. It was there that freshman Will Riley broke out.
He finished the game with 31 points, shooting 10-for-13 from the floor with seven rebounds and three assists in 25 minutes. He also shot 5-for-6 from beyond the arc. SIUE was the next target that Illinois welcomed into Champaign. After a 90-58 win, Riley had 14 points and seven rebounds off the bench. The team was led in scoring by Tomislav Ivisic, who had 18 rebounds and seven assists.
The Golden Grizzlies were the sweethearts of the dance last year after knocking off the No. 3 seed Kentucky in the first round. They have opened this season with a 1-1 record through the first week of play. They played Defiance at their home gym and beat them by 23 points, led by DQ Cole, who had 15 points and three assists.
They traveled to Idaho in their second game last weekend, taking on Boise State and losing in ExtraMile Arena by 44 points to the Mountain West school. Tuber Naivalurua and Allen Mukeba both led the team with 10 points as starters. Naivalurua had six rebounds, while Mukeba had four.
