RJ Davis and No. 10 North Carolina will take the court against Tanner Christensen and Hawai’i on Saturday morning.
The No. 10 ranked team in the nation, North Carolina, traveled down to Honolulu, Hawai’i, for the Maui Invitational later this weekend in the third weekend of men’s college basketball. First, though, they will take on the hometown team of Hawai’i at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Tar Heels are 2-1 overall this season through two weeks of the regular season. They opened up the year at home in Chapel Hill against Elon and won by 14 points despite being down with seven minutes left in regulation.
They bounced back with help from former ACC Player of the Year, RJ Davis. It took no time for them to get into their first real test, taking on the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, Kansas, that first weekend losing by just three points. In their only game last week, the dominated American winning by 52 points. RJ Davis leads the team in scoring with 17.7 points per game despite struggling from the field. Elliot Cadeau is averaging 15.7 points and 7.7 assists per game.
The Rainbow Warriors are undefeated this season, heading into this game. They opened up the season with the Rainbow Classic during the first weekend. They took on three teams in three days, all at home in Honolulu. They beat Life Pacific by 35 points on Friday, followed by San Jose State by 11 points on Sunday, and finished with a 10-point win over Pacific on Monday.
Their last game, last weekend, ended in a five points overtime win against Weber State, also at home. Tanner Christensen leads the team in scoring averaging 17.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. Gytis Nemeiksa follows him averaging 14.0 points and 9.0 rebounds, shooting 55.6% from the field.
