The Spartans brought a three-game losing streak into tournament play and prior to the opener against Alabama State last night were 6-6 so far on the season. The team’s last time on the court ahead of the tournament was played on Sunday against Northern Kentucky and resulted in a 71-62 defeat on the road. Brian Moore Jr., Christian Ings, Terrance Jones and Kuluel Mading each scored 12 points to lead the Spartans in scoring. Jalen Myers pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Spartans on the boards. The team shot well from the field at 46 percent, but struggled from long range at 31 percent, an area the Spartans will certainly need to improve upon before getting into the thick of conference play.
Grambling State and Norfolk State have only met once in their histories and the game went in the Spartans’ favor with a 70-63 victory back in 2021. Tune in on Friday afternoon to see which of these teams can add another win to their record ahead of the holiday break.
