Donovan Dent and New Mexico will take the court against Dylan Andrews and No. 22 ranked UCLA on Friday night.
New Mexico will head on the road at the end of the first week of men’s college basketball to take on the No. 22 ranked team in the nation, UCLA, on Friday night at the Lee’s Family Forum, a neutral court, in Henderson, Nevada. The Bruins took a win in their first game, dominating Rider at home, winning by 85 points on Monday night, college basketball’s opening night. It wasn’t really ever a game with the team taking an 18-point lead at the halftime break and winning the second half by 17 points.
Tyler Bilodeau led the team with 18 points and six rebounds in 22 minutes. The Oregon State transfer also shot 56.3% from the floor. Dylan Andrews and Kobe Johnson also ended in double figures as starters. Andrews had 14 points and six assists, while Johnson totaled 12 points and eight rebounds with three assists in his first game for UCLA after transferring in from USC.
The Lobos are also 1-0 through their first game of the season, beating Nicholls 91-84 on opening night. They won the first half by five points and the second by just two points. Four of the five starters for New Mexico ended in double figures led by Nelly Junior Joseph. The fifth-year senior center from Iona had 28 points and 16 rebounds with two assists.
Mustapha Amzil also had a double-double in his first game this season finishing with 13 points and 13 rebounds with two assists. A junior guard, Donovan Dent, had 15 points and 11 assists shooting 5-for-11 from the field. New Mexico will bring a good team into this top-25 matchup against UCLA.
