New Hampshire will head on the road in the first weekend of college basketball to take on the No. 3 ranked team in the nation, UConn, at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut, on Saturday night. The top-five Huskies were able to get a win in their first game of the season on Wednesday when they took down Sacred Heart at home by almost 40 points. They were only up 15 points at the halftime break, too. Alex Karaban, the only returning starter from last year’s National Championship team, led this game with 20 points, six rebounds, and seven assists.
Freshman Liam McNeeley had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, including three threes. Junior center Tarris Reed Jr also had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 71.4% from the field. Solo Ball was the only other player in double figures with 16 points, two rebounds, and three assists.
The Wildcats dropped their first game of the season on college basketball’s opening day on Monday night. They lost just under 30 points to UMass on the road, giving up 103 points.
