South Florida takes a 3-game winning streak into Friday’s Myrtle Beach Invitational semifinal with Middle Tennessee.
South Florida (3-2), rocked by the death of coach Amir Abdur-Rahim on Oct. 24, advanced to the semifinals at the Myrtle Beach Invitational at The HTC Center in Conway, South Carolina, on Thursday with its third straight victory. On Friday, the Bulls face Middle Tennessee (4-1), which needed overtime to advance. South Florida finished 25-8 last season and played in the NIT after claiming the program’s first-ever conference regular-season title. Its last NCAA tournament appearance came in 2012. Ben Fletcher is serving as interim coach. The Blue Raiders played in back-to-back NCAA tournaments in 2016 and 2017 and played most recently in the 2022 CBI. Coach Nick McDevitt is 87-107 in his seventh year.

Kamari Lands knocked down a 3-pointer with four seconds left in regulation to force overtime and Jestin Porter’s 3 gave Middle Tennessee the lead for good with 2:01 left in the OT in its 83-31 win over Ohio on Thursday. Porter scored 24 points while Essam Mostafa finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Porter gets 16.6 points per game and Mostafa averages 13.6 points and 9.2 boards.
The Bulls outscored Portland 9-3 over the final 2:05 after the Pilots came back from 11 down to tie the game, claiming a 74-68 win on Thursday. Kobe Knox netted 13 points and Brandon Stroud added 11 in the win. Knox nets 11.8 points per game, with Kasen Jennings scoring 11.2 points and De’Ante Green averaging 6.4 points and a team-best 7.3 rebounds.
Friday’s matchup is the first between the Blue Raiders and South Florida.
