Richmond will host Marist on Saturday evening in men’s college basketball action.
On Saturday, Marist will take a trip south to play Richmond in a non-conference matchup at the Robins Center. The Red Foxes come into Saturday’s contest with a record of 0-1 so far after dropping its season-opener to Harvard on Monday by a score of 79-66. The Crimson outperformed the Red Foxes both from the field and from beyond the arc, although the stats were much closer from the three-point line at 41.2%-40%. Marist only shot 41.3% from the field, led by Josh Pascarelli’s 24-point performance. The only other player in double figures for the Red Foxes was Jaden Collins-Roberts who scored 11 points. Parby Kabamba led on the boards with six rebounds. There are definitely some areas in which the team will need to improve, but with plenty of time to do so, there’s a shot at a strong season for the Red Foxes.

The Spiders hosted Mount Olive on Wednesday night for their season-opener, winning handily in a 101-68 victory in front of a home crowd of 4500. Five different players scored in double figures, led by LeLonnie Hunt who finished the game with 17 points. Dusan Neskovic was right on his tail with 16 points. Mike Walz earned his first double-double of the season by leading the team on the boards with 11 rebounds to go along with 10 points in the team’s first win of the year. It was a strong showing to open the season and leaves a lot of promise for a successful year in the Atlantic 10 Conference as the team shot 55.9% from the field and 32% from the three-point line.
The last time these two teams met was back in 2007 and the game resulted in a narrow 64-62 win for Marist to bring the all-time series between the two teams to 3-2 in Richmond’s favor.
